Weekend in Review

Well, to start. After the last post all my ads seem to be about NHL stuff. I have no idea what they are, but at least it's more manly than what used to be there... Hooray, my ego is improved.

Anyway, Kirsten's parents got down a little before noon and when I came over, her mom was bouncing off the walls and hugging pretty much whoever she was closest to, Zubie particularly included. Her dad mostly stuck to Cory's room and rarely made an appearance. When he did though, he congratulated me, looked at the ring, seemed ok with it. Well, about as approving of anything that I've ever seen him, which isn't much.

Anyway, soon thereafter my mom and sister arrived with the pups and, of course, all hell broke loose. Greetings were passed around for a bit until Cory and Boney took the initiative and walked out the door, silently saying, hey, let's go to lunch. Eventually we figured this out and left for a wonderful lunch at Macado's. The highlight of lunch might have to be when Anna won a little squishy thing from the crane game, which prompted Ms. Bernhards to then shower me with change to get me to win her one too. Which I managed to do, surprisingly enough.

After lunch we went back to Kirsten's long enough for her mom to decide they should go wedding dress shopping, and off they went. I went with my mom into Christiansburg to possibly get myself some replacement Oakleys. However, when we got there, they didn't have much of a selection, included none with polarized lenses, so we decided we would custom order them online. We then stopped by Wally World and picked up some stuff. In the parking lot we saw a trike/truck thing... which was interesting... nothing else overly important about that... just wierd.

Anyway, we got back to Kirsten's and then mom got promptly called out to come look at dresses too, so I went back to my place for a bit, singing to myself "I'm so ronery..."

Anyway, they weren't very long and I think mostly wanted to show my mom one that they had fallen in love with. Kirsten is going tomorrow to put a deposit down on it... HOOOLY SHIT... but more on that later.

Once they got back we had cake. We decided to start with the cake my mom made, a red velvet cake with homemade icing which all in all contained a pound of butter. Nothing like shortening your life expectancy for your birthday. After that we unwrapped presents. Kirsten got me a bunch of books that will take me forever to read, which I'm looking forwards to. Mom and Anna got me a kitchen knife set (which works awesomely btw), an iPod remote that I can attach to my steering wheel (which also works awesomely btw), Traitor on DVD, some chocolate, a salt and pepper mill, and a cook book. All in all: Awesome.

After that we just hung out for a while and watched the caps lose while mom made dinner. Dinner was delicious... Crab manicotti... NOM. After that I muscled down some cake, this time the one Kirsten made which was chocolate cake with chocolate chips and chocolate icing. Also delicious. Eventually mom, Anna, and I headed back to my place for the night and I had to sleep alone in my fullsize bed for the first time since January. Sleeping alone isn't nearly as lonely when you're in a twin. Anyway, I read some of Dracula and passed out.

Today we went back over to Kirsten's and had breakfast of Easter eggs, easter candy, and cake. Then the Bernhards went off to mass... about 20 minutes later, Kirsten calls me. Apparently there is no mass, at least not at that time. So we go out and meet them on the drillfield and bring the pups, Mally included.

Eventually, after more small talk, cake and other delicious food eating, the famblies had to leave.

After that, Kirsten and I had a bit of a talk about our plans. I was a little surprised with the speed at which Kirsten's mom had planned much of the wedding already. In this talk, we figured out when we would have the wedding. With all other arrangements working out accordingly, it looks like it'll be some time in June 2010, after Kirsten's graduated.

As for the rest of the day, I took one of the recipes from my new cookbook and improved on it a bit, and made some very tasty and very filling chicken and cheese enchiladas...

Now, I'm sitting here typing, trying to digest. I'm taking tomorrow off, so I'm looking forward to sleeping in a bit... maybe. Though the rest of the day will (hopefully) consist of checking out apartments and townhouses to live in next year.

Allrighty, peace to you and yours.

  1. So much for waiting until you're done with grad school . . . I was gonna say 'isn't it a little early to be buying dresses when you don't even know the date?' Solves that question.

  2. Dear U.S. Army,

Do not deploy me before July 2010. Thank you!

haha, I concur with Jim, get ready to move quickly and realize nothing about that day is yours. It belongs primarily to Kirsten...and probably even more so to her mother. Just stay out of the way and you'll be fine!
